I love tamarind, and its used in this tea which is adapted, according to Ayurveda a version of this tea has been used for centuries.
There are many benefits of this tea, but here are some of them, I also give some of the benefits of tamarind below.
Weight Loss
This Rasayana tea has lots of rejuvenating components which by now you will know is what Rasayana is all about, its great for dissolving fat from the tissues, so that's great for those of you that need to lose some extra weight after the winter months of gaining in.
Rejuvenation
This this is a tea that has been used to improve the youthfulness of the skin as it cleanses the system and allows for the skin to benefit from the cleaning.
Cleaning and Diuretic
This ancient recipe cleanses the mucous membrane of the colon, is a diuretic which helps to reduce water retention in the body.
Vitamin C
I take amalaki each day which is a high dosage of vitamin C , but this tea is another great way to add to your Vit C intake. The body needs regular does of Vit C as it does not make it itself.
Balances the Appetite
Good for those who overeat as this tea helps to balances the appetite, and minimise food cravings.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon of tamarind
- A third of a cup of fresh mint leaves, I use less about a quarter of a cup when I use dried organic mint leaves.
- 2 cups cumin seeds
- 2 tablespoons of fennel crushed fennel seeds
- 1 heaped tablespoon of good quality tamarind concentrated paste
- Half of a teaspoon of Himalayan salt
- 4 lemons, sliced
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper
- 3 litres filtered water
Directions
Combine all the ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil.
Lower heat and continue to boil, cover and simmer slowly for a couple of hours.
Strain.
Drink it hot or cold, 2 or 3 cups a day. The leftover strained ingredients can be reused, but I like to add about a quarter again of the fresh ingredients so that it keeps its potency. This will keep for about a week in the fridge.
