Ayurveda views obesity from a different viewpoint. Obesity is a condition where a person has accumulated so much body fat that it might have a negative effect on their health. Most often created by poor food choices.

If a person's body weight is at least 20% higher than it should be, he or she is considered obese. If your Body Mass Index (BMI) is between 25 and 29.9 you are considered overweight. If your BMI is 30 or over you are considered obese.

From an ayurvedic point of view, obesity is essentially a Kapha disorder called “Stholya”, in which an individual is significantly overweight, and an excessive amount of body fat has accumulated typically on breast, belly, buttocks, and thighs.

Symptoms:

·         Increased body fat

·         Breathlessness on exertion

·         Lethargy

·         Fatigue

·         Excessive sweating with bad odor

 Causes of Obesity

When the amount of calories consumed exceeds the number of calories burnt, the excess calories get accumulated in the body in the form of fat causing obesity.
