December Foods of the Season
December Foods of the Season
December is the perfect time to enjoy a wide range of root vegetables, cabbage and pumpkin. Make the most of the fruits of winter: cranberries and pomegranates.
Evergreen herbs like bay, rosemary, thyme and sage, but there are other herbs that will thrive through the winter's bringing flavour to your hearty soups.
Try bringing new herbs of myrtle, hyssop and winter savoury. Of course, if you are like me you will have a host of dried and delicious collections of herbs and masalas to use during these winter months.
Nature provides the ideal harvest for each season to keep you strong, healthy, energized and focused. Ayurveda aligns our desires with the foods that nature has provided in season for thousands of years.
In the winter we naturally crave soups, nuts, warm grains, and other high fat and protein foods such as meat and fish. In the spring we want salads, berries, and leafy greens — a naturally low-fat diet. And in the summer, when the days are long and hot, we require cooling and high-energy foods such as fruits and vegetables, which are a naturally available high carbohydrate diet.
