Warming Oat, Chocolate and Banana Breakfast

Warming Oat, Chocolate and Banana Breakfast

Most people have and enjoy oats for breakfast and love to ring the changes to add variety.

One common combination that can challenge our digestive capabilities is yogurt and fruit. This pairing can impair the digestive fire and create ama. Ayurveda tells us that mixing yoghurt with fruit is challenging to our digestive system and should really be eaten separately, of course, we now have the advantage of non-dairy yoghurt which is less problematic.

Here I've added some chocolate powder which is typically sweet, but not always and made of roasted and ground cacao seeds. Organic cacao is full of antioxidant qualities and a great start to your day.

Bananas have a high fibre so it's also good for breakfast, with lots of potassium, nutrients and other health gains.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of good quality oats
  • 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed
  • 1 tablespoon of cacao powder - or you can grate some good quality chocolate.
  • A couple of cups of water depends on the thickness you want
  • 2 chopped ripe bananas
  • A handful of chopped nuts of your choice

Directions

Mix the oats, flaxseeds and cacao in a bowl add to a pan then add the water and bring to the boil slowly stirring it.
After about 5 to 10 mins and the oats are soft, add the bananas and cover for another 5 to 10 mins.
Serve and sprinkle with your chopped nuts.
