So Good for Pitta. Steamed Veg & Coconut Combo

So Good for Pitta. Steamed Veg & Coconut Combi.

I love this dish, it's really satisfying and perfect for the Pitta constitution. It's quick and easy to prepare and a great addition to other foods like curries or a side dish to salad or soups. The fresher the vegetables the better the results, this dish does not suit leftovers at all, it should be cooked from fresh and eaten straight away.

If you wish to make a more filling meal you could add tofu or halloumi chunks, most of the time I love to just eat it straight from the steamer.

Pitta

According to Ayurveda Pitta is -

  • Hot
  • Oily
  • Intense
  • Acidic
  • Sharp
  • Liquid

The qualities of food that help to balance and reduce Pitta are -

  • Sweet
  • Astringent
  • Bitter
  • Cool
  • Heavy
  • Dry

It's really wise for Pitta types to avoid hot, spicy and oily food and would feel more balanced by choosing herbs, spices and foods that have a more cooling effect on the body.

This is also a really good dish to eat through the summer when all bodies types might suffer from the heat, you can adjust the vegetables to accommodate Vata and Kapha, and reduce the amount of coconut for Kapha.
